ABSTRACT

Much of what is accomplished in the mentoring relationship happens through interactions between mentor and mentee. This chapter looks at three of the challenges these interactions can present. Mentors are first given advice for managing affective concerns, both those of their mentees and also their own. Then, the chapter offers ideas for balancing input and output, and a Bloom’s Taxonomy for Mentoring is proposed as a tool for understanding mentee’s output. Last, both the challenges and possibilities inherent in face-to-face versus virtual interactions are discussed. Tasks at the end of the chapter take mentors the first few steps toward managing these challenges.
