ABSTRACT

Terrorism, a pejorative term, is no longer only an act of brutal violence that happens overthere, it indeed happens everywhere. It is a global problem. The terror of gunfire, bombs, guerrilla warfare, insurgencies, ethnic violence in contemporary society, is globalized. Schweitzer (1998) provided a detailed description of the globalization of terrorism and the globalization of weapons expertise. With the collapse of the Soviet Empire, and a failing economy, Soviet scientists are on the lists of rogue states. With the desperate financial burden of Russia and its companion lawlessness, Schweitzer fears the proliferation of nuclear skills in the hands of warlords and nihilist terrorists who will do whatever it takes to acquire dangerous weapons. If they do, technology at their disposal, becomes a volatile weapon. This chapter examines superterrorism and other forms of global terrorism in the world today.
