ABSTRACT
The verb 보이다 means “come in sight,” as in 나무 사이로 바다가 보여요 “The sea was seen through the trees.” As an auxiliary verb, ~어/아 보이다 is used when the speaker expresses his/her opinion regarding the appearance of something. It is only used with adjectives and corresponds to “(it) appears to be” in English.
