ABSTRACT

The return on investment Institute lists several conditions that need to be achieved if a leadership development programme is to be evaluated at the business impact and return on investment levels. Authentic Leadership Development has to leave it up to the individual to discover what internal learning and external behaviour change needs to happen to achieve greater congruence within their role as a leader. Experienced, motivated professional leaders at all levels are entrusted in their roles to develop and lead departments, divisions and entire companies. Most of the benefits of a leader’s increased personal and professional authenticity will be felt most keenly by the leader themselves. The benefits analysed in the research were mostly of the intangible type, which led to the leadership attributes of self-awareness, self-regulation, clarity and confidence. In this data, there were consistent reports of individuals experiencing a greater confidence in their leadership and clarity about what their leadership responsibilities should involve.
