ABSTRACT

This chapter presents eight structured techniques for creating joint drawings, all of which are characterized by their transitions between working in a private space and working in a joint space. They include a range of exercises that focus on the two central axes of the relationship: the ability to be alone and function autonomously, and the ability to be together and maintain closeness and intimacy. The eight structured techniques are: colored shapes on a black background, connect the circles on the cardboard, the forest, a joint collage, warm and cool colors, working on thirds of the page, from a half to a whole drawing and a story between two drawings. If a parent and child are detached and have trouble connecting, they are encouraged to work in a structured manner toward joint activities that promote closeness and dependency.
