ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the way in which common sense is grounded in people's ability to human, and this involves several skills and attitudes. It illustrates a fictitious small world in which a colourful group of people are present in a variety of scenarios. For this microcosm, the island of Endoxa is chosen. The ability to adapt to new scenarios can be found at the basis of the development of a conceptual framework. Conceptual frameworks create order in unknown circumstances by identifying scenarios organised around a role that you can carry out. People who can work with a conceptual framework show that they are able to adapt to new scenarios. There is one specific and characteristic mode in which this common sense manifests itself, and that is the self-evidence with which we adopt an investigative attitude when we are confronted with something that one do not immediately understand.
