ABSTRACT
The details of study site selection and the development of the socio economic surveys resulting from the original project involving ACIAR, ViSCA, La Trobe University and the Victorian Department of Conservation and Environment, are presented at the beginning of this chapter. This project was the basis for the research conducted by Parrilla (1992) and for some of the research contained in this book. After a description of the establishment of the original project, a brief summary of Parrilla’s (ibid) findings is presented. This is followed by an outline of the research proposals and surveys used in this book.
