ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a selection of case studies of Slovenian multinational firms. Most of the material in the cases has been collected from annual reports and financial statements, combined by necessity with opinions and beliefs gathered from interviews, questionnaires, press clippings and web pages. The cases of Slovenian firms' successful internationalization demonstrate that firms are multinationals and have succeeded in internationalizing their businesses despite the many difficulties encountered along the road. Perhaps the most salient lesson is that many in fact resolved some of the major problems and crises precisely by turning even more to international markets, by intensifying their international operations. The case studies show that outward foreign direct investment (FDI) is set to strengthen in the future and that other forms of international linkages, including enhanced inward FDI, are becoming necessary if firms want to survive the ever-tougher competitive battles for market shares.
