ABSTRACT

At the turn of the year 1978, Ms. Magazine contracted with a journalist to investigate and report on equal pay for equal work. Now Betty was working on logistics of the proposed Kit-related service to provide regression computations for those unable to do the computations themselves. Betty remained deeply concerned about the persistence of salary inequities. Betty continued to participate on panels at women-in-science workshops. For example, she was invited to be a member of a panel on discrimination organized by the UCLA continuing education program in engineering and mathematics. Betty was now president of the IMS and facing a situation similar to the AAS. The IMS membership was divided on the issue of not holding meetings in states that had not ratified the ERA. Betty became concerned about the field of engineering when she gave the welcome at a conference at Berkeley on 'Student Women Engineers and Computer Scientists'.
