ABSTRACT

My aims for this research, stated in Chapter 1, were twofold; to illuminate experiences of student nurses undertaking the Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing Studies course in an attempt to understand the meaning they assign to those experiences and, through a hermeneutic analysis of their stories, to portray the learning milieu in which students become nurses. These aims were developed from questions which were generated through my reading of associated literature and from my own experiences of being a nurse and nurse educator.
