ABSTRACT

The new cooperative research project of the Foundation for International Business and Economic Research (FIBER) and The Conference Board (TCB) will extend the coverage of the composite indexes of coincident and leading indicators to a large number of countries around the globe. Poland was on our high-priority list because (1) it is a country that is well advanced in the transition from centrally planned to market economy when compared with other countries in the post-Soviet area of Central and Eastern Europe, and (2) it has already maintained for several years a high average rate of economic growth, which explains a substantial interest of international investors in the Polish economy.
