ABSTRACT

This elimination of the labor supply behavior of the working poor from analysis, however, leaves a serious gap in theoretical knowledge relating to their behavior. This is especially appalling considering the size and percentage of the world’s working population who might display this negative sloping supply behavior. The World Bank (2001) estimates show that almost 50 percent of the world’s population live with less than US$2 per person per day and 20 percent live with less than US$1 a day. A significantly large segment of this population can be undoubtedly characterized as hard-working poor.
