ABSTRACT

Keller's time as Music Talks Producer, despite lasting only seven months, was indeed a memorable one. Despite the brevity of his period in charge of them, music talks have a significant place in Keller's work as a staff member. Despite the increasing length of some of his own contributions, Keller had never lost sight of his 'musical short talks' idea, to which he often referred in discussions of other talks projects. A Series of Short Talks with Long Thoughts Behind Them became Keller's principal production project during his final years at the BBC. Robert Layton, who joined the BBC the day before Glock, gives a similar picture of how Keller's enthusiasm for Schoenberg appeared to his BBC colleagues at the time of his appointment: He was regarded as a maverick figure who was an extreme admirer of Schoenberg.
