ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at how people enter the price reporting sphere, how they are trained and their career development prospects. Increased use of technology and a trend towards the use of more mechanical approaches to reporting prices, as described in the chapter on methodologies, is also changing the role of price reporters at some of the largest price reporting agencies (PRAs). Whether or not the price reporter stays with a PRA or moves into the industry, his or her pay will tend to outperform that of their peers in traditional media or publishing firms. Most PRAs are more profitable now than at any point in their history and some of this increased revenue and investment filters down to the employees in terms of higher salaries and nicer offices. The western PRAs generally have a decent balance between men and women in their staff, while the Chinese PRAs are if anything weighted towards female employees.
