ABSTRACT

Faridabad has made exceptional progress in agricultural sector and lies at the heart of the Green Revolution belt of India, along with industrial development. Because Sagarpur lies in near to the industrial areas of Faridabad and Ballabgarh, it is vulnerable to pollution from large industrial establishments. Obviously enough, land holding and employment in the service of the Government have a special place in psyche of Sagarpur: poultry, dairy, trade, commerce, self employment, and traditional occupation are nowhere in the class mapping in the villagers. Agriculture is perceived by the villagers, as a part-time occupation and income from agriculture is considered supplementary income. The decline in agriculture as an occupation is obvious and for an agrarian economy it is a serious issue. Though cultivation and farming in Sagarpur is mostly from canal and lift irrigation since 1960-70, intensity of cultivation remains mono cropping. Changes in cropping pattern have been influenced by a chain of dynamic changes in farming practices.
