ABSTRACT
I have mentioned that historical materialism has largely been turned into the ethnological and sociological discourse of causality. This derives, of course, not only from the need of this discursive whirlpool for new 'paradigms' in the ever more frequent changes of figures, but also from the fact that historical materialism's great old classic, Das Kapital, has shown itself to invite such discourses. I am thinking here of the fact that Marx had to interrupt his work with the manuscript after writing precisely a page-and-a-half of Chapter 52 on 'The Classes'.
