ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book begins with an overview of the outcomes achieved through gender quality action learning (GQAL) and then offers assessment of critical factors that contributed to these outcomes. GQAL in the community has become BRAC's primary means of working with key stakeholders to address gender-equality issues. In order to locate the GQAL story within the current literature, the book reviews the recent and relevant work related to gender mainstreaming, New Institutionalism, normative and organizational change and gender-sensitive programme and impact evaluation. 'Value for money' assessments are being used to assess whether gender-equality outcomes are being achieved in a cost-effective and efficient manner. The book demonstrates the linkages between the new problem-solving skills and gender knowledge of staff who participated in GQAL and their improved performance as regards working with members of BRAC communities to promote gender equality.
