ABSTRACT

This chapter reports results of hypotheses testing and construction of the composite scale for adoptive parents in Hong Kong. The analysis presented above was based on the entire study sample of the questionnaire study which was made up of approximately two-third Chinese and one-third Caucasian adopters. The following rotated Factor Matrix shows that three clustering factors were extracted. They can be labelled as: Adjustment in Adoption, Threat to Parental Entitlement, and Confidence and Acceptance toward Adoption. Hypotheses formulated by review of western literature and participation observation made in the mutual-aid organization for Chinese adoptive parents were tested. A major contribution of this thesis is to construct a composite scale for adoptive parents in Hong Kong by running factor analysis on 13 subscales constructed by participation observation. The aim of conceptualization and operationalization were achieved. Three factors were extracted, namely, Adjustment in Adoption, Threat to Parental Entitlement, and Confidence and Acceptance toward Adoption.
