ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to explore the extent to which the formative evaluation of the five settings showed them to be organised in a way that was consistent with family support. The chapter starts with an overview of the settings which illustrates their diversity. Four policy evaluation criteria are then used to determine whether the purposes that the settings were set up to meet are consistent with family support. Five other policy criteria are used to evaluate whether the way in which the settings were organised promoted family support policy and practice. Examples are given where some feature of a setting provides a particularly useful illustration of how an evaluation criterion has been met. The chapter ends with a discussion of the findings in relation to how they advance understanding of the organisational context of family support and of how to develop an approach to evaluating this.
