ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on Need as an Area of Investigation. Information gathered using Collection Kit Instruments 4, 5 and 6 is presented covering the socio-economic status of the localities of the five settings in addition to profiling the needs of the service users’ households and the primary carers within them. This is then considered in relation to the Children (NI) Order definition of ‘in need’ and the Evaluation Criteria 10 to 13 which relate to need. The chapter ends with a discussion of the findings in relation to how they advance understanding of what needs are appropriate to family support and raises a number of methodological issues.
