ABSTRACT

There are many ways to start a project, but not all are to be recommended. For example, in some organizations you will be discouraged from doing anything that might cause a perceived delay, so any attempt to carry out detailed planning, estimating, risk analysis or any other ‘fancy stuff’ might be seriously frowned upon. Instead, you will be told the budget, and given a ‘yesterday’ deadline and a ‘Just get on with it’ instruction. This is the classic ‘Fire, aim, ready!’ approach.
