ABSTRACT

One objective when deciding on a suitable title for any non-fiction work is to describe the book and its purpose succinctly. When Jonathan Norman at Gower Publishing suggested ‘A to Z’ as part of the title of this book, it was a wise recommendation. After all, the topics in the book are arranged in alphabetic sequence. This approach to the name was so obvious that it had been overlooked entirely. Were there likely to be any drawbacks? At the front of the book, you will find the topics ‘Approval’ and ‘Authorization’ that satisfy the ‘A’ requirement. At the end of the text, I only got as far ‘W’, for such topics as ‘Work Breakdown Structures’ and ‘Work Packages’. Alas – no ‘Z’! At first there was no obvious ‘Z’ candidate, but perhaps ‘Zero Tolerance’ is worth a few words, of value to those readers who oversee, direct, sponsor or steer projects and programmes.
