The Development of an Information System for District Hospitals - A Case Study from the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa

This is the story about the development of a hospital based information system. It is presented as a story because one of the conflicts that we experienced in the process of developing the hospital information system was to establish a balance between a reductionist approach where local contextual issues were ignored (as so often happens in bureaucracies), and the need to be aware of local needs and practices.
