ABSTRACT

The focus of this book is the social implications of the use of computers and information systems (IS) in the context of developing countries. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss some methodological issues for empirically based researchers working in this domain. There are many different approaches to social science research in general, and IS research in particular, and it is not possible to cover this field in a comprehensive way in this short chapter. The chapter will, however, set out some broad methodological issues, and will make some observations based on my experience in the area, which I hope will be of value to other researchers working in the field.
