ABSTRACT

Inthisstudy76subjectsperformedinamonotonousdriveforovertwohoursina drivingsimulator.Gazeandeyelidbehaviourweremeasuredbyelectrooculogram, fatigue-relatedmimicsandsubjectivealertnessreportswerealsorecorded. Considerableinter-individualdifferenceswerefoundinthecorrelationsbetween the20oculomotorvariablesrecordedandsubjectivealertnessreports.While correlationsacrossallsubjectsarelowthereisabroadrangeofoftenhigh individualcorrelationsbetweenthevariables.Afactoranalysisextractedfive factorsrepresenting(1)lidclosure,(2)opening,(3)combinationofboth,(4)lid cleft(allneuronalnetsinthebrainstem,duringblinkinterval),(5)corticalcontrol. Insearchofadrivertypology,ahierarchicalclusteranalysiswasusedforthe individualcorrelations.Eightclusterswereidentified.Themainclustercontains themajorityofdrivers(59).Thenextclustercontainedonlysixsubjects.The remainingclusterscontainedonly11subjects.Thusthereisnoclear-cutmatch betweentheneuronalnetfactorsanddrivertypologyusingthismethod.
