ABSTRACT

Rejection is never something that one likes to experience, but it's going to happen. This chapter presents several rules that to be followed when the completed manuscript is rejected. In general, the editor will provide an overview of why he or she decided to reject the manuscript followed by the reviewer's comments. Sometimes, these comments will be written in paragraph form and at other times, it will be presented as a line-by-line explanation. In addition, some journals will provide a numerical score on specific items such as relevance, methodology, clarity of writing, adherence to the journal's submission guidelines, and so on. There are five points that need to be made regarding resubmissions: reviewers are sometimes different for each revision; reviewers differ in opinions; you don't have to agree; you can still get rejected; patience. Online, open access journals tend to be much quicker, as there are less printing or publishing requirements.
