ABSTRACT

After therapist trainees have traveled through the jungle—after they have learned the craft of our trade—they look at the clear sky, take a breath of relief, and ask, “Now what?” This last chapter aims to answer this question. It welcomes the novice counselor to the journey forward, into the practical world of clinical practice. In the practical world of clinical practice, the novice therapist will encounter several landmarks:

The imposter phenomenon

The demand of documentation and record keeping

The potential for burnout

Armed with the tips and insights provided in this chapter, the novice counselors/therapists will feel more prepared, will stand erect, ready to tackle the challenges that are an integral part of clinical practice. Most importantly, they will come to appreciate what a privilege it is to be in the helping profession.
