ABSTRACT

Sculptor in metal. Born in Hartlepool, he lives and works in the North East. He is member of the Loughborough Group, with whom he has exhibited. He received a solo show at the Bede Gallery, Jarrow (1991). He was elected RBS (1992) and received a Northern Arts Award that year. He draws upon the North East of England for his thematic and visual motifs. His works, on a very large scale, such as his almost 5 m-high Pulse (exh. 1994, welded steel), relate to the steel and shipbuilding industries of the area. He has also created series of smaller-scale pieces, which concern ideas of masculinity and industry and are often produced from found industrial débris cast in bronze (Relics of the Past, Symbols of the Future, exh. 1994, bronze).
