ABSTRACT

The present chapter is an extension to Chapter 5. Its aims are three-fold: (a) to provide the reader with an overview on the origins, evolution and cultural peculiarities of the UK regulatory framework; (b) to pose a question as to the strength of the influence of domestic and/or international regulatory competition over the system; (c) to discuss the nascent ‘new millennium regulatory system’ and its implications on London’s status as a pre-eminent European and global player.
