ABSTRACT

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has the most effective and well-developed mechanisms for human rights protection in the international system. Based on the adoption of a wide range of international conventions, it includes the regular examination of reports, input from nongovernmental organizations and both technical and political review. It has been supplemented in the last few years by the addition of promotional tools applicable to human rights, even if governments have not ratified conventions. The process is then rounded off by the fact that the ILO's technical assistance is available to help correct any problems that may occur.
