ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the globalisation issues with a particular focus on foreign investments and behaviour of foreign companies in the Korean market. It examines the most intriguing determinants behind the steep increase of foreign investment in Korea. It offers a cultural and institutional analysis of the nature of invisible obstacles as well as the prevailing opportunities in the Korean market. The majority of interviewees cited that most multinational conflicts and related issues are found in the company's ignorance of the impact of the dynamic nature of Korean capitalism on multinational business. The chapter uncovers the market environment of Korea with a comparative analysis of the changing nature of the Korean business culture and business environment. It departs from generally and superficially perceived negative views of Korea and its market due to various political and cultural peculiarities of the market and argues that often those invisible obstacles in doing business can be surmounted by utilising experience and resulting knowledge.
