ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book attempts to offer a contribution to the Korea related literature, which, in turn, is heavy on generalisation and myth but light on case based analysis. It explores the social and political factors and the way that culture impacts on Muti National Companies. The book reviews various theoretical paradigms on Korea's capitalist industrialisation in order to examine how Korea's '97 financial crisis has theoretically been dealt with by scholars. It offers a crucial finding that many MNCs, in their market entry plans, often fail to take account of the importance of socio-political and cultural understanding in the success of product and market planning. The book shows that apart from some well-known issues regarding doing business in Korea among the foreign community, Korea still is seen as, and remains, one of the most difficult markets across Asia to invest in and export to.
