ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at three areas where e-HR can help people to manage their teams more effectively: recruitment, time and attendance, performance management. The performance management process is sometimes seen as a largely bureaucratic exercise, a perspective that can detract from its value. Automation of the administrative aspects of the process, plus easier access to performance-related information such as learning and promotion opportunities, can help to strip away this perception. There is, of course, considerable overlap between managing people and administration, but the focus in the chapter is more on what can make the job of managing teams of people easier and more effective. Search engines are now standard technology that can easily be installed within an intranet. This makes it much easier for employees to find a particular type of job. For example, someone may be looking for a job within the Marketing Department based in the Edinburgh office.
