ABSTRACT

The well-known advantages of using computers for many business applications apply equally to project management. The most effective project management programs work across a database, which can often be arranged to import or export data to one or more other company databases to produce a well-integrated management information system. The use of any computing system obviously requires some investment. Before any project can be scheduled by computer, the project manager has to ensure that appropriate facilities are available, most notably the hardware and specialized software. In the UK the more important software houses usually exhibit at project management exhibitions, organized by or in collaboration with the Association for Project Management. Most project management software uses either precedence notation or a form of linked bar charting. Basic project data mainly comprises information that has to be entered only once, when each new project file is opened. The arguments for resource scheduling are similar to those for time analysis.
