ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the subject of project purchasing, with more emphasis on obtaining equipment for capital projects. It describes some of the procedures are also applicable to the purchase of high-value equipment for any kind of industrial project. The purchasing agent could be an independent organization, the contractor's purchasing department or even the client's own purchasing department. Purchasing agents sometimes need to be kept informed by sending them copies of enquiries and specifications which are intended for initial action by another purchasing agent in the project organization. If the project planning and management software is suitable, up-to-date cost and planning data can be printed on the purchase control schedules from the database. An effective arrangement for the preparation of purchase control schedules is to ask each project engineering discipline group to prepare a separate schedule of the equipment for which it is responsible. The purchaser might wish to arrange visits to a supplier's premises to check on progress, inspect workmanship.
