ABSTRACT

Winner-take-all capitalism will remain a driver, especially in the United States but is increasingly at odds with the 99" movement. When entrepreneurs are no longer driven to own the world, the venture capital model no longer applies. The overwhelming majority of PCEs will either not be funded at all, or will be funded via alternative approaches to what the venture capital industry offers. Crowdfunding has emerged in recent years as a powerful force that has demonstrated the power of more distributed models for the economy. Even in the market economy, where most crowdfunding platforms operate, the crowdfunding model by nature is distributed and generally peer to peer. Even Kickstarter, the world's largest and most visible crowdfunding platform, has high values alignment with PCEs. In 2014, Kickstarter solidified its commitment by reincorporating as a benefit corporation and becoming a B corp.
