ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to describe the results produced by the listing task or event listing method. In the listing task, adolescents were asked to mention firstly any dreams or plans they had concerning their future life. Secondly, they were asked to write about any threats or obstacles, which might prevent their dreams from coming true. This task was placed in the beginning of the future orientation part of the questionnaire. However, the most common plans expressed by young people both in Finland and Russia dealt with future education, occupation, marriage and family, as many previous studies have reported (Greene and Wheatley, 1992; Nurmi, 1989; Poole and Cooney, 1987; Seginer, 1988). In addition, adolescents have mentioned global questions, war and pollution, which they have considered as threats or obstacles (Nurmi, Kalakoski, Poole and Seginer, 1992).
