ABSTRACT

The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most important tools for green growth in the ubiquitous society. If the IoT provides the contact point with the interdependent society, artificial intelligence (AI) provides the control tower, like a CPU in a computer, for the diverse activities in ubiquitous society. The smart factory is the next generation of manufacturing factories that is built on the principles of the IoT and Big Data. The smart factory does not only enhance automation and productivity in the production process, but implements diverse sustainable performance regimes for green growth. These stages are easy to demonstrate in the business case of POSCO, the largest steel manufacturing company in Korea, in examining the fourth industrial revolution of the smart factory. The metamediary, as the control tower of green IT, should quantify all the processes involved in green IT planning and implementation, and provide the organizational readiness to take on its responsibilities with pride in all partners.
