Introduction

This chapter provides an overview of our book, outlining the problem that we set out to explore and address: the problematic nature of some Western news media coverage of Muslims and their faith. It explains why we focus on this issue. The chapter then provides a brief overview of each chapter, including the approach taken to them and key findings. It concludes by highlighting that one of the key developments that occurred in of writing our book, the development of our Transformative Journalism Model, has multiple applications, including for journalists, journalism educators and those researching news media representations of Muslims and Islam.
