ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the research into news media coverage of mosque proposals and openings. It identifies some of the key issues associated with this coverage. It then turns to an examination of two news stories which, on an initial reading, seem to be at odds with the typical problematic approaches to news media coverage of stories about mosque proposals or openings. It highlights that while these stories demonstrate good practice, there are gaps in them that with some attention could be addressed to provide a more transformative type of coverage.
