ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 outlines the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy. It begins with the history of CBT, before looking in more detail at the theoretical principles underpinning its practice today. It aims to provide an introduction to the model, highlighting its most important aspects and outlining how they can be used, practically, in clinical work with adolescents and young adults. It then considers the evidence base upon which CBT has been built.
