ABSTRACT

Recently, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications have gained much interest among governments, industries, and academia because of their wide application in the field of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). In the future, ITS will be such that each vehicle is able to acquire information through onboard sensors and exchange it with neighboring vehicles through wireless vehicular networks. This will improve vehicular safety, as each vehicle has detailed knowledge of the surrounding traffic situation. However, such networks require reliable communication links that meet strict packet delay deadlines. Several international standards have been proposed to support the applications of V2V communications, such as the wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) [1] and its European counterpart, ITS G5 [2].
