ABSTRACT

An approach which focuses on the development of self within an active framework, as the individual constantly reflects, not only on the behaviour of others, but on his own behaviour and its impact on others. There has never been a time when the school curriculum has received so much intense attention. The nation's progress to a curriculum for all has produced a mountain of documents and been the topic of meetings ranging from Cabinet briefings to parent-teacher evenings. Most of the things that are done in classrooms are done with others, or at least in their presence, and this has profound implications for the personal and social learning of a child. In this crowd the child experiences delay, denial, interruptions and distraction. One of the inevitable outcomes of this complicated traffic management is the experiencing of delay. Denial occurs when permission is refused, a raised hand is ignored or the teacher insists on everyone working silently in their correct seat.
