ABSTRACT

A fundamental concept in project management is proper control. A proper sequence, with required approval and oversight, will allow the team to move from one Project Stage to another with the correct amount of detail and information—no more, no less. The fundamental point is that the stage-gate process is necessary to ensure that the team is progressing toward the goals established for them, and thus there is a need to check periodically for direction. Most stage gates have two purposes—one to confirm that the work of the preceding stage is completed appropriately and satisfactorily, then to decide whether to proceed or not. Stage gates are the gates along the project life cycle that separate the stages. Project governance is part of the organizational project management system. In every industry and every occupation, there are bureaucratic processes, routines, and even semi-robotic actions.
