ABSTRACT

In the PMBOK Guide, where the term best practices is used, it refers to domain-specific practices, because it not logical that there would be generic best practices. These good practices provide the foundation for organizations to build on and work toward implementing best practices. Best practices, if they exist for a given project type, would be applied across the project life cycle. However, most best practices are applied early in the Development Phase, while the project is still in the early stages and before reaching the Delivery Phase. Construction Industry Institute (CII) claims that the effective application of every best practice can reduce the total project cost 1–3 percent per best practice, which would translate to millions of US dollars on large and complex projects. Capital projects are capital investments projects, such as facilities, which require engineering and construction.
