ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses more solutions that have been generated by theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ). The solution of the contradiction, or the Ideal Final Result, was that the flexible rollers would behave as if they were stiff. The "impossible" contradiction was solved by simple and elegant mechanics. A good solution seems simple and uses the laws of nature even if, at first, it seems that the laws of nature will prevent a good solution. Experiments showed that the new solution worked as was patented. Proper problem definition is crucial to good solution generation. Several iterations of problem definition may be necessary to arrive at the best description of the problem. Having management commitment for problem-solving projects is important during the implementation phases of the project. If solutions are not implemented, then solution generation has no value.
