ABSTRACT
The figures of population per acre of housing land were arrived at by combining the estimated population with the area of land used for housing. For certain purposes its superiority over the “population per acre” figure of the census is evident. The latter may be reduced by the existence in a ward
of a large works area, but the index would then conceal the true state of congestion in the district, thus:
