ABSTRACT

In Part One of this book we covered, in some detail, the theoretical model and methodology of the behavioural approach and its applications to teaching. Part Two consists primarily of a series of classroom demonstration studies designed and carried out by teachers in their own classrooms. Most of these studies present data collected and recorded in ways already described in Chapter 3. But these data really come to life when we draw graphs of them and the practical effects of the interventions become clearly visible. This is shown in several of the classroom intervention studies which employ graphs. In this chapter we will introduce simple graphing techniques. Far from being a chore, graphing can be one of the most exciting aspects of the approach. Nothing is more reinforcing for teachers who adopt this behavioural approach than to see their graph daily demonstrate the effectiveness of their interventions.
