ABSTRACT

Religion is the traditional source of spirituality in many societies as people look to religion to fulfil their spiritual needs. While religious influence has waned in many, if not most European societies, it remained strong in the United States and continued to be an important part of American society for many decades. There are many different religions in the world, and each of them has a perspective that is different from the others, but it is the Christian religion that has been the main source of spiritual values for the American's over the years. Religion has been shaped and influenced by the scientific and technological culture in which we all live, making it appropriate and necessary to inquire into the impact the scientific worldview has had on religious life and thought in America. Critics of religion often overlook the fact that many of the more offensive passages in religious texts are discounted by most modern theologians and educated laypeople.
