ABSTRACT

Pam had her own story, which involved a mother who was distant and made Pam feel a sense of loss and aloneness for most of her life. She remembers falling in love with Gwen and finally feeling truly connected and safe with another human being. In the case of Pam and Gwen, their trip-ups were based on their own childhood experiences and the beliefs they constructed that then became their default parenting decisions. But there was something else at play. The parent whose wishes are overlooked or ignored will carry that resentment like a small stone in their breast pocket. Over time, if the sleeping issue is not resolved in a way that makes both partners feel like it was a win, and as other areas of their co-parenting life begin to erode, the resentment begins to envelop other areas of the relationship.
